Nasal Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
- Keep your head elevated as much as possible for a few days. This helps prevent swelling and bleeding inside your nose and sinuses.
- Do not blow your nose for 48 hours. If you have to sneeze, do so with your mouth open. There may be some bleeding, but it should not be excessive.
- Diet: as tolerated. Drink extra fluids. Avoid foods which are hot in temperature or spicy.
- Take medications as directed. Avoid aspirin, as this can lead to increased bleeding.
- Surgery center will give you instructions when and how to begin irrigating your nose.
- Avoid lifting greater than 20 pounds for one week. No strenuous activity for two weeks after surgery.
- Take only warm baths or showers for one week. Hot water can increase the risk of bleeding.
- Notify St. Josephs Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic of the following:
- Excessive bleeding
- Fever over 101°
- Increasing swelling, pain, or bad odor
- Change in vision
